Memorial Day is truly about one thing, and yet the celebration is carried out in multiple manners, as is befitting of the melting pot that is America:
Flying the American flag over front porches; historic re-enactments, flags and flowers will be placed upon the graves of deceased war heroes with great reverence. Little red poppies will be sold at the doorways of all the stores this weekend.
What these have come to be known are threads woven into the fabric of our nation’s history. What they represent, however, is a much larger and less easily allegorized substance. The earth we walk upon, the most base definition of our nation has been defended for us by those we choose to honor with this national holiday.
How we celebrate will no doubt bring us closer as family and social groups. We will select our ingredients, the decorations, recipes and plan a menu. A list of attendees will be formulated, games will ensue.
The one thing that will be, for the most part, ignored, is the parts and pieces…tablecloths, service wear, napkins and grills.

Where were these made?
Where were they purchased?
At what cost Freedom?
