From our friends over at Made in America Stuff comes this feature of their website we think is both fun and enlightening:
“Water Towers are iconic symbols of cities and towns across America, often proudly displaying the town’s name. They come in many sizes and styles and are unique to the area and the people they serve. “
Click here to visit the gallery
At their website you can upload and share your town’s water towers or those you’ve seen while driving.

  1. The water towers images are so cool… They have the towns history, places to see, and festival / events. A great place to show off your town!

  2. This is a cool idea. Water towers are like land locked Light houses.

  3. We don’t have any here in Astoria. There used to be one along the river outside of town at the Navy hospital site but I think they demolished it when they built upscale housing out there.
I can’t wait to add to your collection, what a great thing…I will repost on Facebook to my friends!

  5. Ha. There is a golf ball shaped water tower on Pleasure Island near where I live. I’ll have to get a shot of it and add to the site. That Made in America Stuff is a great site. I love the Stuff!

  6. I think this idea is a great one. It is a great idea for small towns with big history to share with others what their town has to offer. It is also a great way for towns to bring in tourists too. I just checked out the gallery and the MadeInAmericaStuff.com website and there is a great collection of water towers up there and some good stories behind he towns too. Also, the site is a great one! Check it out if you haven’t already!

  7. Water towers, like lighthouses, are a great part of Americana. The idea of adding local info about each town is a great one.

Great website for the promotion of America and cool stuff made here!

  8. I like watching for the town names or icons on water towers when I travel. It reminds me of times when the water tower was a symbol of prosperity and pride for a town.

I’m going to bookmark the Made in America Stuff site so I can watch the collection grow…
